Center Cores
Core 1: Intraoperative Imaging and Interventions
The role of Core 1 is to advance the use of specialized intraoperative imaging techniques in order to improve the detection of devitalized and infected tissue by supporting both software (analytics, data visualization) and hardware (camera and sensing) development.
Core 2: Advanced Biofilm and Genomics Integration
The role of Core 2 is to integrate and standardize the management of tissue samples for genomic analysis, next-generation sequencing and biofilm imaging and to establish strategies for (a) quantification of bioburden and (b) imaging of orthopaedic-specific biofilm.
Core 3: Data Science, Biostatistics and Research Methodology
The role of Core 3 is to expedite translation of optical imaging and genomic/biofilm research into novel surgical methods to improve effective treatment of hardware associated infection in orthopaedics and support educational objectives in biostatistics, translational and clinical research in orthopaedics.
Center Administration
The role of the administrative core is to govern the entire Center, including the administration of personnel, financial oversight and quality controls on services and research progress; to foster communication between the CORT project and core investigators; to arrange an annual advisory group meeting and symposium; and to provide enrichment opportunities for the CORT investigators, orthopaedic and infection researchers, orthopaedic surgeons and the larger scientific and lay communities.
